Key Facts for International Students: Work & Study in Canada
No Work Permit Required: Full-time students enrolled in public post-secondary institutions may work on or off campus for up to 20 hours per week during academic sessions, and full-time during scheduled breaks, without the need for a separate work permit.
Spousal Open Work Permit: Eligible full time students at public post-secondary institutions - or private institutions authorized to confer degrees - may qualify for an open work permit for their spouse or common-law partner.
Co-op Work Permit: Students whose academic programs include a mandatory co-op or internship component may obtain a work permit, as this employment is an integral part of their studies.
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP): Graduates of recognized programs may be eligible to apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit, allowing them to gain valuable work experience for up to three years
